Betta Barn, a high density commercial Betta display
Being in fish retail, I have to work with these small Betta cups or bowls, and I know there has to be a better way. After researching, I found that there wasn't a system which addressed all the requirements of display, easy maintenance and a more suitable environment for these fishes, so I designed one. I have enough mechanical drawings prepared to put together a proof-of-concept proto-type. From there I fine-tune the liquid capacities and flushing system. After that I assemble about 30 low-volume proto-types. Using these, I fine tune the fit of all the plastic components, the lighting and several mechanical aspects of mounting the setup to standard retail shelving units.
The return on this project might eventually recoup the engineering and proto-type costs, and could probably cover ongoing marketing, sales & distribution costs, but it's really a longer term project for me, when I have more disposable income available to pursue it. I just refuse to shelf it as it has such a significant humanitarian value (if that's the right word). If someday we are judged by a higher being, it might be according to how we treated lesser creatures than ourselves, and Bettas in cups will be a black mark against us.
